the West: The Union Pacific Shop Has Opened for Business

The newest feature has been rolled out by publishers InnoGames for the free-to-play, Wild West-themed browser game, The West. The Union Pacific Shop gives players the chance to get some special items through new, challenging daily quests.

As previously mentioned in the Roadmap 2012 which was released not too long ago, the newest feature has been made available to players as of yesterday in the free-to-play MMORPG, The West. Features in this update include an activity reward system with an in-game shop (Union Pacific Shop) and other special items.

These special items, known as “buffs”, can be purchased from the Union Pacific Store with the new currency, Union Pacific Bonds. These buffs will give you a special advantage when taking part in duels or fort battles, in addition to raising your labor points and refilling your HP.

One way to get the new currency, Union Pacific Bonds, is to use the new activity reward system. This system will present you with a task list every day and will pay out each time you complete one of these tasks in The West game. Additional bonds can be granted for completing these tasks five days in a row.

InnoGames is bringing the worldwide, beer-soaked festival called Oktoberfest to the lands of Ancient Greece with their in-game Oktoberfest Event in the free-to-play strategy game, Grepolis. Get ready for all kinds of fun as thirsty inhabitants need their beer...

As of now, players of the browser-based strategy game Grepolis can experience the fun and festivities of Oktoberfest. The event will challenge players to ensure that their thirsty inhabitants are well-supplied with beer, because we all know you can’t call it Oktoberfest without excessive amounts of the golden bubbly brew.

In order to complete this mighty task, you will have to collect hops and mugs. While mugs will be found floating around in the Aegean Sea, players will have to demand the hops from farm villages on their island.

Those dedicated brewers that keep their people happy with beer will be aptly rewarded. The rewards include additional resources, improved spells and fighting points. The best of the best can even earn 200 gold points and an additional culture point!

10 May, 1940 ... The German Wehrmacht opened its long-awaited campaign in the West by smashing across the frontiers of Belgium and Holland. For the German High Command, it was seen as a daring move. Hitler's fledgling legions faced the combined armies of France, Britain, Belgium and the Netherlands. These Allied forces had more and better weapons of almost every type, and at least two of the west game opposing armies, those of France and Britain, were considered to be the best in the world. The Germans had the element of surprise and the new Blitzkrieg tactics of mobile warfare.

Six weeks later, it was all over. The British Expeditionary Force (BEF) had been driven from the continent and the French, Belgians, and Dutch had all capitulated. Hitler had achieved a victory in the west, and the world would never be the same.

But, what if? It didn't have to happen that way ... Bad generalship and correctable flaws in their armies hastened the Allied defeat. What if the High Command had bothered to stay in radio contact with its armies on the frontier? And had then reacted promptly to the developing situation? What if the Maginot Line had been extended to cover the Meuse crossings at Sedan where Guderian's Panzers broke into the Allied rear? What if the BEF had included a strong British mobile corps that could have fought Rommel's Panzers on even terms at Arras? What if the French had prepared to meet the Blitzkrieg by building eight tank divisions instead of three? Or by mechanizing their cavalry the way the Germans did after the Polish campaign? Or even by developing their own blitzkrieg doctrine? The Allies could have taken any or all of these actions, and any of them would have altered the campaign's course. But which ones would have changed the outcome?

Victory in the West is a realistic two-player game that accurately recreates the 1940 campaign in all its aspects except one: the outcome is totally up to you. The game's centerpiece is an options system that lets the Allied player trade Victory Points for changes to his armies and policies that might (or might not) have changed history. Can you, as the Allied commander, repel the Germans with the forces on hand in 1940? How about if you train them better? Or give them a better command structure? Or provide them with more and better anti-aircraft an anti-tank guns? What do you think is the key to victory in the west? Can you, as the German commander, still beat the Allies if the French Army is motorized like the BEF? And how does your strategy change if the French don't build their Maginot Line, but do build a bigger and better air force? Do you still try to sneak through the Ardennes forest with your Panzers? Or do you ignore Allied bombers and wheel across the open plains of northern Belgium in a repeat of the 1914 Schlieffen Plan? Or do you do the unexpected and land a left hook through the Alsace? Your commanders await your orders. The future of Europe is in your hands.

The West Description

In this game it is your task to conquer the Wild West as a cowboy or Indian and settle in the harsh desert. Now it is up to you to prove that you can do it...The west Game
Cowboys and Indians - they have their own special charm. The colonialization of the New World was a challenging and dangerous venture. It was a tough time for the settlers, as it was also for the native Indians. In The West, you can take part in the prairie colonialization in the Midwest.

In The West, you choose one of the four character classes. Each has its own advantages. At the beginning you are a greenhorn who has no idea how things work in the New World. You can customize your character during the course of the game. It can specialize in certain skills in which it particularly excels. For certain tasks you need certain skills.

The quests are important because they earn you money and promote your character education. At the beginning, you will probably have to tend sheep. That’s your first job. Of course, not everything in the New World is love, peace and harmony. It’s possible that you have to face other players in duels. If you need to resolve a disagreement with another cowboy, a duel at high noon is probably the best way to do it. But be careful: Duels might cost you hit points. Do not dare stronger players- at least not too much stronger players.

After duels, you need to relax yourself. Without rest you will not make it far because life in the new world is hard.
For your protection and to avoid being economically dependent on different jobs, you might want to join a city or found one yourself. In a city many players gather and organize their lives. There are banks, hotels and a shop. In the shop you can restock your inventory and get better equipment.

The West is a great browser simulation. It requires no installation and contains several worlds. Thousands of players have already registered and started their lives in the New World. Not all have survived. But you can do it - if you're tough enough.

The West Game Wing

Game On” is an episode about a debate—the debate; it’s the thing every member of the White House staff has been preparing for over the last handful of episodes, let alone weeks in West Wing time. It’s a very serious affair, so serious in fact that “Game On” gleefully mines more comedy from the actual debate than the show has found in more overtly comic situations. The episode is hysterical at times, moving at others, and nimble enough to morph a sad, touching story about a tie into 30 seconds of pure comedic gold. The more sacred the cow, the funnier and more impressive it is when that cow starts juggling.

The opening scene sets a tone of playfulness amid the west game grave seriousness of what’s about to happen. Leo approaches Toby about the debate, claiming Bartlet is having trouble getting his answers right. Toby’s first instinct is to send Bartlet back to camp, even if it’s in his office and even just for a few hours. But Leo insists Toby let this one ride; rather than correcting Bartlet when he gets something wrong, he should just say, “That’s terrific, Mr. President.” Toby’s upset, but he understands—there’s already a lot of pressure on the man. So he spreads the word to the rest of the team, and commences grilling Bartlet. And when he stumbles, Toby loses his shit and starts yelling. There’s silence, then laughter as $10 bills are handed out to everyone who bet Toby couldn’t actually follow Leo’s mandate. Bartlet has decided to spend his precious minutes leading to the debate fucking with Toby. As he exits the office though, Toby is the one smiling: “He’s ready.”

“Game On” is about a debate, yes, but it’s more of a celebration of Bartlet’s impending victory. The entire day leading to the San Diego face-off comprises a series of brief, meaningful conversations between the president and his staffers. “There’s no such thing as too smart; there’s nothing you can do that’s not gonna make me proud of you,” Leo says to Bartlet as he hangs back, sad not to be at his friend’s side. “Game on,” says everyone else at one point or another as they settle into the spin room, eager to watch their boss devour his opponent. Charlie is the only one who’s nervous. Asked to dig up the president’s lucky tie, we come to learn that he’s been harboring the secret that the tie was lost to a dry cleaning accident. Bartlet assures Charlie everything is going to be okay; then we watch a scene with Abbey and the president in private (after Toby leaves with, “I just assumed you’d want to include me”), and Bartlet is freaking out in his own private, controlled way. “Do you think there’s any point in still having the debate?” Abbey asks facetiously. Bartlet rolls his eyes and mentions the tie again.

Abbey wishes him luck, sends him off, calls him back, and cuts off his tie. Cue the most frantic, claustrophobic scene in West Wing history as the team scrambles to take off Josh’s tie and throw it onto the president with literally 15 seconds until he has to be on camera, televised to the entire nation. Somehow, they pull it off, with a second to spare so he can smack Abbey’s ass on his way onto the stage. If love isn’t a crazy woman waving the tie she just slashed from your chest, then, well, I don’t know what it is.

Everybody is crazy in “Game On,” though, breaking just about every single rule you possibly can.The west Game,Hell, the Bartlet campaign is the one who set out the rules for the debate—90 seconds for a response, followed by 60 for a question and response—and Bartlet goes out of his way to ignore that. The first question goes to Ritchie, who reiterates that he’s in favor of state’s rights, and Bartlet rebuts by reciting a list of all the places Ritchie’s state of Florida received its funding last year, ending with, “Can we have it back, please?”

The browser based game The West Game takes you back to a time of Indians and Cowboys, of family feuds, of rivalry and chivalry. The West is a browser-based game set in the wild west of the United States.

As you embark on various quests and missions, your character will earn experience points, make money, learn new skills as well as grow and evolve. It is only through experience that your character will develop and learn new skills, striving for the opportunity to gain a reputation as a feared or fearless hero in the browser game The West.

You can do this by challenging other players to thrilling duels – but be sure not to take on the strongest players first, they will take you out with one blow! Each duel depletes your character’s hit points, so it is important to ensure you get rest in between fights.

Another important element of the role-playing game The West is defining who your enemies are, and who your allies are. Form alliances with other players, for protection, camaraderie and support. Move to or discover your own city, where you will be able to live, bank, shop and network with other players. The browser game The West is waiting for its next wild western hero. Will you rise to the challenge?

The West Jobs

Jobs

To get money and experience points you need to work or duel other players. Each job has different values for wages, experience and luck and by that they all have different advantages. Each job is available on many different spots on the map. It does not matter which one of those spots you work at, the values are the same for each one. The motivation is also the same.

Labor points show how good you are at working on a job. You need at least one labor point to be able to do the job at all. Bringing in more points raises the wages, it lets you find better items and it lowers the risk to hurt yourself badly.

Duels

A duel is the fight between 2 players. To challenge other players you have to be member of a town and your town needs a mortician. You then need to go to the town of the player you want to challenge and go to the saloon.

A duel is separated into 8 rounds. Each player has eight chances to try to land a hit and eight changes to dodge the West games attack from the other one. To land a hit you need good attack value. To evade a hit you need a good defense value.

You can set a dueling tactic by clicking on the menu 'Duel'. By setting the striking and dodging zones you can also alter the damage. Here you can set a few different things. For one you can set where you want to aim. Depending on the area you hit you make different amounts of damage. If you hit a shoulder you make 15% more damage. Hitting the head creates 50% more damage.

Towns

Towns play a central role in The West. Here you can bind with other players and build up a strong, powerful town. Every building you work on gives advantages to you and the other players. You can not join more than one town at a time.

With the help of the other members of your town you can construct several different buildings in your town. Just like any other job the construction of buildings needs labor points.

When the last member of a town leaves it becomes a Ghost Town. Buildings in ghost towns cannot be used anymore. It is possible to reawaken a ghost town. Doing this costs just as much as founding a new town. The big advantage of taking over a ghost town is that the buildings keep their old levels.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West - Game Review

Again another game I had not planned to play but after a friend from work suggested I give it a playthough, I decided why not. After reading more about this game and coming to learn that the plot was inspired by the Chinese novel Journey to the West, I was greatly intrigued as I have read the English translated version of this novel before. Having liked the story of Journey to the West I figured this game was well worth a review after having peaked my interested. The story of Enslaved is not quite the same as the ancient novel; however thats not necessarily a bad thing as the story is a very strong positive aspect of this game and one of the things I loved about it. Enslaved is set sometime in the future in an post-apocalyptic world where most humans have either been killed by mechs, become enslaved or live in small villages/communities. As the protagonist Monkey you make your way through this mech filled world, fighting for survival as you are accompanied by Trip a fellow survivor who has forced you into helping her return home. In the opening chapter you discover that Monkey has been captured by slavers, he is freed by accident and then tries to make his escape from the slaver ship before it crashes. Long story short...the slaver ship crashes and after recovering from unconsciousness you find yourself enslaved by a headband that has been put on you by Trip. This "selfish" action on her part has single handedly connected your fates as your life is dependent on yours. If her heart stops beating you will die and therefore you get the whole thing I said earlier about being forced to help her. With no other choice but help Trip to return home..the Odyssey to the West begins.

I will be honest at the beginning I found Trip to be useless and quite frankly very annoying. She doesn't really fight and can barely climb but she eventually becomes of some use. It took sometime for me to warm up to her character but it might just have been the fact that I disliked that she enslaved another person in order to get what she wanted. Trip is clearly the brains of this duo not saying that Monkey is dumb but as you will learn Trip is very tech savvy. Throughout your journey she shows off her skills by helping you see mechs that are up ahead, opening doors and even hacking power sources. She provides useful advice and the more you learn about her the more likable her character becomes. Monkey on the other hand is very likable from the start of this game and is the muscle in this relationship However, he also has a softer side which will become more evident through the game as he starts to genuinely care for Trip and vice versa. Monkey's major skill is that which her name implies...he can climb like no one's business. These two characters actually play off each other very well once the story gets going. The dynamics of the relationship and story develop very well and is one of the best parts of this game.

Description

As sheriff of Gold Gulch, a small town in the Wild West, the player creates confusion. However, this sheriff doesn't jump over roofs and rolling waggons while shooting around, but first talks before he shoots the gunslingers' nobs. Yes, talking makes up the main part of this game. Per counterpart there are each 3 conversation phases with each 4 pre-formulated answers (+ revolver), so you get a nice number of 64 different possible endings per conversation (if you leave out the premature endings of a conversation). But the plot is not only straight-line - occasionally there are surprises, when an untroubled villain wandering off suddenly decides differently, when the doctor tuns to the bottle instead of patching up the sheriff or when a romance is ahead. The game also offers the possibility to set the end to the capital flight in Gold Gulch by putting the bank robbers into their place. For the players preferring a little shooting the game offers also some fields of activity, as not every answer gets through the stern test under ethical aspects.

When you play LOTW on an emulator today, an old score is quickly restored - but in 1985/86 it was a tragedy to get shot! This meant turning round the disk and at least 5 minutes waiting before you could start again.…

Hints

With joystick in port 2 you can choose the answer, or -if words aren't enough, to express yourself- you can control the crosslines (draw the colt = move the joystick forwards, to fire - press fire). But be careful, the opponents of the duel shoot back. And if you get hit, then only the doc will be able to help you - if he wants to and if he is not drunk!

Solution proposal

I've written down my personal solution. To read, try out and supplement. If somebody might notices "Oi, I would do that totally differently!", just let me know.

01 A Dude! (Secret)
Already the first gringo in the game wants to tell us, that the James Gang wants to rob the train.
You the sheriff of this stinkin' town? >Yes. What may i do for you?< You must be the nicest lawman alive. >The last man that said that to me died.< Well, Sir, i didn't mean any offence. >Good. Heard any news about the Daltons?< The James gang is goin' to rob the train.

02 Miss Rose (Secret)
Miss Rose also gets a few things in the saloon.
Well, hello there, big boy. >How's the saloon business doin' lately?< Business is fine, except for the Daltons. >Are they planning something?< Well, I really shouldn't tell ya, Sheriff. >It's ok, Rose. I'll protect you.< Ok. They're gonna rob the stage.

How great would it be if you could simply complete a task whenever you wanted to, even if it was just a few seconds after it started? Well the time travel cheat allows you to do this! All you need to do is begin by starting a task, I would recommend that you try founding a town. Once you have done so you will need to go to your computers control panel and select the date and time option. Change the time / date on your computer to a time when the task is due to finish. Now go back to the West game and you will see that your task is all done! You can also use this cheat for going backwards in time as well as forwards.
